There are hundreds of islands off the coast of Scotland. Skye is the biggest, followed by the Isle of Mull. I prefer the mainland for walking but there’s a romance, and excitement, taking a ferry over to the islands. If you have a car, it’s great fun driving around and exploring.
For this trip to Scotland I walked and photographed at Glencoe, Affric, Torridon, then Mull. After the challenges of Liathach I enjoyed relaxing with more gentle walking; although Ben More was quite rough. The mornings where I camped were mysterious and delightful, with mist blurring the boundaries of sea, sky, and land. The photograph, above, is one of the morning views. I walked, sat, photographed, watching the fog clear and the day begin.
The first film is when I’d just arrived. I’d only been there for the night and I was getting confused, incidentally, how to pronounce Liathach. I say Lee-ach but it’s more correctly Lee-a-tach. The second film, several days later, shows the summit of Ben More in unfortunate conditions.
